Summer Road Trip Essentials – Part 1

Packing Smart & Staying Safe

Summer is almost here, and if you’re ready to hit the road for an adventure, there’s no better way to travel than with a classic road trip. Whether you’re heading to the coast, the mountains, or somewhere totally off the grid, being well-prepared can make all the difference in how smoothly your journey goes.

Before you start the engine and roll the windows down, here are a few essentials to pack that will keep your trip fun, safe, and budget-friendly.

Snacks & Drinks That Save You Money

Stopping for snacks every few hours can quickly drain your travel budget. To save money and eat healthier, pack a cooler with sandwiches, fruits, and easy-to-grab items like trail mix, jerky, protein bars, and granola. Buying in bulk from a store like Costco or Sam’s Club before your trip is a great way to stretch your dollar and stay fueled between stops.

Don’t Get Caught Off Guard by the Weather

Even though it’s summer, the weather can still surprise you. Warm days can turn into chilly nights, and rain can appear when you least expect it. Check the forecast for all your destinations before you leave and pack layers, a lightweight jacket, comfortable shoes, and a compact umbrella just in case.

Safety First with a First Aid Kit

Even the most carefully planned road trip can come with unexpected bumps—literally. A small first aid kit stocked with band-aids, antiseptic, allergy medication, and over-the-counter pain relievers will come in handy for minor scrapes or headaches along the way.

Don’t Forget the Sunscreen

If you’re out and about exploring parks, trails, or small-town streets, make sure you’re protecting your skin. Bring sunscreen with a high SPF and reapply regularly, especially on your face, neck, and shoulders. A hat and sunglasses are also smart additions to keep the summer sun in check.
